It's an incredibly cynical thing to say, but dates are an investment. The person might be wonderful, but if you take her or him to a fast food place, it's not going to work.

I've heard from numerous people that a date always be "top of the line". Having dinner at McDonald's won't cut it.

A first impression is very important. People are shallow when it comes to first appearances, and dates are a deal breaker.

Whether the date is at a restaurant, bar, amusement park, etc = money will always be involved. There also exists that old fashioned mentality that a man should pay for a female's meal or drink. If it looks like the man cannot afford it, it comes off looking badly.
